Casino Workers Demand Fair Pay, 57 Arrested

United States: Culinary Union announced that police in Las Vegas arrested 57 striking casino workers on Thursday at a protest outside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Union Workers Demand Pay Deal

More than hundreds of casino employees at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas went on strike last week in their bid to demand a new five-year union pay deal, as reported by Reuters.

The union used pictures and streaming videos on X, having its members demonstrating at a road leading to the hotel. Others demonstrated that policemen restrained some of the union members by using handcuffs.

“Culinary Union members on strike outside @VirginHotelsLV while Culinary Union members are getting arrested in non-violent civil disobedience,” the union said in one of the posts.

The Culinary Union pointed out that the union leadership, including its president, Diana Valles, was also detained by the police.

Protest Coincides with Formula One Event

On the other hand, police in Las Vegas said the street that was closed by protesters during the week was again clear after the arrests.

Hotel Ownership Silent Amidst Protest

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is owned by JC Hospitality, June Capital Partners, Virgin Group, and others, including seven other partners, as stated on the hotel’s official website, as reported by Reuters.

Neither Virgin Hotels nor Ilene has responded to a request for an interview by this publication or Reuters as of when this article was being written.
