United States – Kamala Harris responds to Trump, religious beliefs, and marijuana legalization while discussing the racial injustice issue with Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes on a podcast on Monday.

Harris was grilled by the two ex-NBA basketball players at her home in Washington for their ‘All the Smoke’ podcast as her campaign seeks to court more male especially Black voters who polls show have embraced Trump than Biden, the Democratic candidate, as reported by Reuters.

Responding to Polls and Racial Identity Comments

In a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted between Aug 21-28, while 41% of men said they would vote for Harris in case the election was held today, 47% said they would vote for Trump. Lining in the White House, Harris was backed by about two thirds of black men.

Trump confused racial identity of Harris and that is why Barnes quoted him asking Harris how she felt about people asking her about the basic truth about the identity. Harris has Indian origin from her mother’s side and Jamaican origin from her father’s side .

“I’m really clear about who I am and if anybody else is not, they need to go through their own level of therapy, that’s not my issue,” she said.

Advocating for Legalization

Harris joined other Democrats who have supported decriminalization of marijuana, echoing an Earlier position she held before Democrats anointed her their presidential candidate in July, and noted that marijuana criminalization affects Black people most. “We know historically what that has meant and who has gone to jail.”

Harris also discussed the prejudices associated with mental health and added she guards her mental peace with daily work out, cooking and avoiding the comment section.

“I think the mental health issue is probably one of the biggest public policy failures in our country,” she said. “We have acted as though the body starts from the neck down, instead of understanding we need healthcare also from the neck up.”

Harris mentioned that she had difficulties to sleep immediately after Biden pulled out of the race and supported Harris as the Democratic nominee, because everything was happening “at the speed of light, the speed of light.”

She claimed that one morning she got out of bed before everyone else was up and went to work in the kitchen, as reported by Reuters.

“I just went out and got a pork roast and started marinating it.”
