United States – Kamala Harris and Donald Trump continue in a close race in seven key states, two weeks before the U.S. November election, according to a new Washington Post/Schar School poll, as reported by Reuters.

Harris Leads in Georgia; Trump Slightly Ahead in Arizona

The Democratic former prosecutor took Georgia 51-47, while the Republican candidate was slightly ahead of the Democratic in Arizona 49-46, both of which fell within the plus or minus 4.5 percentage points of the survey’s margin of error.

Harris, who was vice presidential nominee when Biden withdrew in the summer to seek the presidency again, also had a polling lead in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin — all of which she is due to visit later on Monday with Cheney, who was recently ousted from the Republican leadership for voting to impeach Trump.

Trump Leading in North Carolina, Dead Heat in Nevada

Trump was ahead in North Carolina with 48% vs 47% for Biden, and the two were evenly spread at 48% each in Nevada out of the poll of 5,016 likely voters conducted between Sept. 30 and Oct. 15. He has said that he will survey recent Hurricane Helene twisters in Oklahoma on later Monday and hold a rally in North Carolina.

Trump, 78, is running for the presidency for the third time after falling to Biden in the previous election. He persists in lying about fraud in the vote and is now criminally charged federally and in some states for inciting to overturn the election, among other things. Trump has denied any wrongdoing.

Harris, 60, was a district attorney, state attorney general, and senator, having successfully prosecuted key cases in all levels of the judiciary, including the Supreme Court, with the hope of rallying the young voters, women, and people of color as well as getting some dissatisfied Trump base.

Monday’s results were consistent with other polls conducted in the past few weeks that placed the election at a dead heat in the seven swing states while putting Harris ahead in the national polls.

National Polls Show Harris Slightly Ahead

The Post poll also revealed that 49% of the likely voters support Harris while 48 percent supported Trump. A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted a week ago showed Harris maintaining a slight lead of 45%-42% over Trump, as reported by Reuters.

However, choosing the president via the Electoral College whose results are state-by-state outcomes of November’s election. It seems the seven swing states are likely choosing the next president with polls done among the likely voters giving voters an idea of the kind of race so far.
