Two Dead, Multiple Injured at Givaudan Factory

United States: An investigation in the incident that took place on Wednesday in the Kentucky involves the explosion that brought down a Louisville based factory with two victims and several others critically injured, as reported by Reuters.

The explosion was reported at around 3 P.M. EST (2000 GMT) on Tue in Givaudan factory, which deals with colours and fragrances for foods and beverages according to its website.

On Wednesday, the company explained that two individuals were lost in the blast.

Casualties and Injuries

Photographs from the scene showed several individuals lying on the pavement: twelve were transported to hospitals with different injuries, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg stated.

Some of the other reported injuries were mild, moderate, and severe, including head and neck injuries.

Investigation and Safety Measures

The fire department of Louisville was overseeing the probe and a federal reconstruction team from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will assist in analyzing the cause of the event, Greenberg added.

Multiple local news outlets have described how the loud blast was heard all over the city and shattered windows in buildings close to the scene of the explosion.

Community Impact

Local authorities stated that air quality had been analyzed at the site, and so far, there was no evidence of risks, as reported by Reuters.

A shelter-in-place order was implemented for anyone within a one-mile (1.6 km) that was in proximity of the explosion. It was lifted around 90 minutes after the explosion, as reported by the Louisville Metro Emergency Service.
